Call for entries in Rere Adventure

Thursday, October 5, 2017

RIDERS can go at their own pace in the adventure ride and even stop at the Rere Falls for a break.

Organisers of the Rere Falls Trail Adventure Ride are calling for bike tyres to be pumped up and entries to be sent in.
The ride on Sunday, October 29 will have four distance options, all finishing at The Jolly Stockman at Matawhero near Gisborne.
Shuttle transport is also planned to help riders get to their choice of start points at Eastwoodhill Arboretum, Wharekopae, Matawai and Motu.
“The adventure is all about offering an easy way to experience this stunning region we have for cycling at all levels,” said Kathy Sheldrake of the Motu Trails Charitable Trust.
“Longer-distance adventure riders will pass by the old Moutohora rail bridge, Rere Rockslide and Rere Falls.
“All riders will experience the fantastic Eastwoodhill Arboretum and all riders will get to enjoy entertainment and a prize-giving at The Jolly Stockman.”
“We want to make everything easy by providing the option of transport to the start points. But October 29 is closing in fast and we need more entries to make this event happen.”
A special touch to the day will be the unveiling of a bench seat in memory of former Motu Trails trustee Richard Coates.
“Richard loved the arboretum, he loved cycling and the first Rere Falls Trail Adventure Ride was his idea.”
E-bike riders are welcome to take part in the Rere Falls Trail Adventure ride. The event is not a race so riders can go at their own speed and, for example, stop to check out the Rere rockslide or falls.
While the longer distances are best matched with a mountainbike any roadworthy machine is suitable for the shorter option.
The day is designed as a fundraiser for Motu Trails Charitable Trust, further helping to promote the region’s trails.
