FOLLOWING a postponement earlier this year when two cyclones, back-to-back, disrupted plans at Easter, Opotiki’s town market day is all set for Labour Weekend.
Opotiki News advertising consultant Bryan Richardson said the event aimed to bring people into Opotiki in, hopefully, warmer and drier weather for the opportunity to pick up some bargains on outdated stock.
The market day offers retailers in Opotiki the chance to clear out any old stock they may have, and for those in the community to get to know their retailers better.
Shop owners and their employees will be setting out trestle tables on the main street with their specials and old stock for sale.
The market day will run between 10am and 3pm and will include live music.
Owner of the Gift Store, Margaret Matthews, hopes to see the market day become an annual event, seeing it as something good for both the town and retailers.
She said at this stage, the idea was to give the market day a go, with feedback gathered from retailers afterward.
