CURTAIN Bank has reached an incredible milestone – it has made curtains for its 900th house.
Barbara Smith has volunteered with the organisation since its start nine years ago, and said she helped make the first set of curtains.
And now they were delighted to have given curtains to their 900th house, an Opotiki home.
She is encouraging people to donate more reasonable quality curtains ahead of the Curtain Bank’s closure over summer. The centre shuts at the beginning of December and re-opens in February and its five volunteers would like to make up curtains before the summer break.
She said they made an average of 10 curtains a house.
Various agencies referred families in need of curtains to the Curtain Bank.
“Our aim is to put two metre long curtains in homes for the purpose of keeping warm. We do get a lot of short curtains, but we have to join them together.”
Volunteer Keitha Frew said it would also be nice to see some younger volunteers helping with the sewing.
