Police are investigating the circumstances behind a logging truck losing one of its rear axles on State Highway 2 near Waimana.
The mishap in which the logging truck’s trailer flipped on its side, spilling logs onto the road, occurred between Fraser Road and the Waimana Valley Road on Wednesday.
Police officers and mechanics called out from Opotiki were yesterday afternoon trying to determine if a technical malfunction had caused the crash, or if the axle detached during a crash scenario caused by something else.
Senior Constable Richard Thrupp of the Taneatua police said no-one was injured, no other vehicles were involved and it was too early to state a cause.
Contractors set up one-lane traffic management at the crash site while preparing for another logging truck to arrive, onto which the load of logs would be transferred.
ONE of the rear axles broke off from the logging truck.
