MEMBERS of the Opotiki Volunteer Fire Brigade attended a two-vehicle collision at the corner of Bridge and St John streets early on Saturday afternoon after it was thought oil had been left on the road.
Deputy fire chief Rob Sturdy said the brigade was called to the location at about 1.15pm to wash some oil off the road.
It is understood that there were no serious injuries to the occupants of either vehicle, four people in an Audi and an unknown number in a ute.
Volunteer fire fighter Kevin Hennessy, who lives near the location of the accident and heard a loud bang, later told Opotiki News the fluid was neither oil nor petrol, but turned out to be radiator coolant.
He said some people were being seen to in the back of the ambulance.
Opotiki police Sergeant Dale Allison said a file on the incident was not available yesterday.
