A DEDICATION and unveiling at two pou gracing the entrance of the Opotiki Primary School took place on Thursday.
Representing Ranginui the Skyfather and Papatuanuku the Earthmother, the pou were created by artist Jamie Boynton.
Following the speeches, the whole school sang the waiata E Kore Au.
Mr Boynton said the process of the pou started early in the year after principal Tony Howe saw the pou installed at Waiotahe Valley School and deciding his school ought to have something similar.
Mr Boynton said the creation had taken longer than expected, due to other matters getting in the way.
“It’s been a long time coming, but the school has taken a relaxed approach,” he said.
