THE north-eastern part of the Ohiwa Harbour is a popular area for a variety of visitors this time of year.
It’s not only guests at the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park who are enjoying the area, but Blossom, the elephant seal has also decided it’s a great spot for a vacation.
She was spotted enjoying the sun and the beach on Tuesday.
Holiday park owner Todd Morgan said it was not only the elephant seal that was a new attraction at the park, but also the swimming pool.
“The storm and the rain was a bit disruptive, but the sun’s back out now,” he said. “It’s been a good season and our new pool is very busy.”
Also keeping busy were Musselman owners and Kawerau residents Brad McNaul and Tarei Semmens who were selling their food right next to the pool area.
“This is the second year we have been here,” Ms Semmens said.
“We cover events in the weekends, but are here during workdays.”
Mussel and whitebait fritters, fish and chips and a full range of burgers are available poolside.
Mr McNaul said the facilities at the Ohiwa Beach Holiday Park were really great.
“You get people from Wellington travelling for many hours to get here,” he said.
Families enjoyed coming to the park because of the family atmosphere.
“And now we are part of that family,” Mr McNaul said.
Just across the road from the park entrance, several families were spotted enjoying the calm waters of the Ohiwa Harbour.
And above it all a man floated across the sky in his orange paraglider.
One week after the storm, summer rules at Ohiwa.
